If you are new to 3D printing — or sending a model to a print service — the first question is usually: which material? At True Form Labs we print in PLA, PETG, and TPU, and each one suits a different job. Here is how to choose.

PLA: the everyday workhorse

PLA is easy to print, crisp on detail, and affordable. It is the best choice for display pieces, miniatures, prototypes for visual fit checks, and anything that does not face heat, impact, or constant sunlight. It is also fully compostable in industrial facilities, which is a nice bonus.

PETG: the tough all-rounder

PETG sits between PLA and ABS. It is far stronger and more heat-resistant than PLA, resists water and chemicals, and barely warps — making it ideal for functional parts, enclosures, brackets, jigs, and anything that will be handled or stressed. If your part will be used, choose PETG.

TPU: the flexible option

TPU is a flexible, rubber-like filament. Use it for phone cases, gaskets, bumpers, vibration dampers, and anything that needs to bend without breaking. It takes a little more care to print, but for flexible components there is no substitute.
